Abram began his journey without any knowledge of his ultimate destination. He obeyed God’s call to him without any knowledge of its consequences. He took one step without asking for a vision of the distant landscape.

That is faith: to do God’s will here and now, quietly leaving the results to him.

Faith does not worry about the entire chain; its attention is fixed upon the immediate link. Faith is not knowledge of the grand plan; it is allegiance to God expressed through acts of obedience. Faith leaves something to the Lord; it obeys his immediate command and leaves to him the matter of direction and destiny.
